Iowa State Marriage Laws Couples planning to tie the knot in Iowa, also known as The Hawkeye State, must be at least 18 years of age and must provide a valid picture ID and social security number when applying for a marriage license. Neither blood nor medical tests are required, but there is a three-business day waiting period for anyone who wants to marry in the state of Georgia. If either of the intended were previously married, a copy of the divorce decree and date of divorce or their former spouses death certificate and date of death must be provided. Individuals who are under the age of 18 and wish to be married in the state of Iowa must have parental consent at the time the application for a marriage license is submitted. Iowa does not permit those under the age of 16 to be married. All couples, regardless of age, must have one witness present when applying for a marriage license. The state requires that the witness be 18 years of age or older. The state of Iowa does not have any residential requirements, which means you can exchange vows even if you are not a resident of the state.
